The local body in Dehradun notifies 10,000 people who have unpaid property taxes.
About 10,000 city residents have been flagged by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) as property tax defaulters. Manuj Goyal, the Dehradun municipal commissioner, reported that the tax division has so far found 9,433 structures in eight wards for which the property tax has not yet been filed.
He said that the business has begun notifying these defaulters and has already started sending them electronic communications to remind them to submit the property tax.
The corporation will collect revenue by imposing a four-fold penalty on the property tax, he noted, so owners of such properties have one final chance to fill out their self-assessment form and deposit property tax.
As more wards are examined as part of the ongoing investigation, more defaulters may shortly be found. DMC representatives stated, adding that they would be fined if they didn’t pay.
He said that the practise of designating buildings is also being done by the officials in other wards. So far, the organisation has registered 92,377 residential properties and 12,754 non-residential properties. According to the corporation’s executives, this fiscal year’s revenue of roughly Rs 15 crore represents a respectable collection compared to the previous two. The corporation is anticipated to easily collect over Rs 40 crore in property tax this fiscal year, according to the authorities, who have stated that this year’s online tax filing is much better.
